Out of the numerous Oklahoma colleges present, the University of Oklahoma has the only state supported law school. The National Jurist Magazine ranks it in the top 15 percent of “Best Law Schools”.
University of Oklahoma offers three kinds of law degree programs: Juris Doctor, Master of Law and Master of Legal Studies. The first year of the Juris Doctor Law program requires students to study the standard basic law courses such as Torts, Contract, Constitutional Law and Criminal Law. After this, students are allowed to choose their area of interest in which they later specialize. To graduate from law school, this Oklahoma college also calls for its students to complete one rigorous writing requirement in their second or third year. The writing requirement asks for students to develop a well researched thesis on a legal topic under the supervision of a faculty member.
Apart from a single law degree, this Oklahoma college offers its students to combine their degree of Juris Doctor with either of the following: Master of Business Administration, Master of Public Health, Master of Science or Arts, Master of Arts and International Studies, and Master in American Indian Studies. The Law College of University of Oklahoma also allows students to complement their bachelor’s degrees by earning certificates in certain areas of law that are critical to Oklahoma’s economy such as energy and business entrepreneurship.
The University of Oklahoma proves its excellence through another one of its programs, the John B. Turner LL.M program that lets students choose their major from the following three distinctive fields: energy and natural resources, indigenous people law, and US Legal Studies. Not limiting the students to just the classroom, this program allows students to interact with legendary professors, attend guest lectures and social events that provide them with networking opportunities.
Some of the world class faculty that this Oklahoma college employees includes famous names like Richard Hemingway, Owen Anderson, Victor Kulp, Murray Tabb and Maurice Merrill.
Master of Legal Studies Program at this Oklahoma college offers students to gain legal knowledge about energy and natural resources in one year of full time study on campus, and knowledge of indigenous people in two years through online study. Lastly, responding to the growing need of legal assistants by lawyers and corporations, it also provides you with the opportunity to obtain a degree in legal assistant education. This degree requires you to complete 42 units of legal-specialty classes.
To provide its students with a real world experience, the University of Oklahoma makes efforts to place its students in live client clinics where they represent clients under the supervision of an attorney who would otherwise not be able to afford counsel, or advocacy clinics where students are exposed to certain areas of study, or externships in different organizations.
The law school of University of Oklahoma has proved itself to be one of the biggest, finest, and promising colleges in the state. Although admission to this Oklahoma college is very competitive, it is definitely worth a try if you are interested in public speaking and logic.
